Happy Valentine's Day

“The way to love anything is to realize that it might be lost.”         Gilbert Chesterton

Time will come and time will go. We are but a short sweep of the second hand of the clock. Master of all we rush about making our way, having our way with little thought to what morrow brings.

Forever patient are you, Mother Earth, with our posturing, profiting, and populating. We crowd out other species, and monopolize your resources – that you carefully designed, and stored for many millenniums.

We cherish and honor you on Earth Day, then quickly revert to getting all we can from you. You work hard to give us sunrises, sunsets, clear water beaches, soul refreshing forests, and amazing creatures of endless distinctions.

Maybe on this Valentine’s Day we will think with our heart, be aware of time’s fleetness, and recognize our mortality & legacy and your finite resources; acknowledge we only share your bounties not own them.

We need not clutch that which we love so tightly it cannot breathe.

We do not need to wrap our environment in plastic to preserve it. We need to unwrap & remove the plastic to allow nature to survive & thrive.

We need to pick up littered trash-help keep the home you provide us - Green and Clean.

“The care of the Earth is our most ancient and most worthy, and after all our most pleasing responsibility. To cherish what remains of it and to foster its renewal is our only hope.”  Wendell Berry

We love fresh local farm produce, backyard garden vegetables, maple syrup, open land, Lake Champlain, Green Mountains, sunshine of summer, snowfall of winter, autumn gold, red and yellow, and spring flowers. We love you for life itself and all the bounty you provide us.

Readers, please help keep Vermont Green and Clean: pick up littered trash throughout the year. Love where you live.
